Whatever we think of: Narrative café

Hear about the past and learn more

In several small groups, narrators meet with interested people and start conversations. They are reminded of events, answer questions and have their stories supplemented by other participants. Stories that emerge in this way are documented. Each narrative café provides new clues about events or people. The aim of this series of events is to create a culture of conversation that enables people to work together to document the past. There are pros and cons to subjective narratives, the “little stories,” but that’s how memories are.

Topics

Topics

In June 2018, the first narrative café was held with the title “Whatever we think of: 1900-2000.” As a test run, it laid the foundation for further dates on for discussion of the following topics in a total of 12 events held until the end of 2019: “Fine arts,” “Youth then and now,” “Kaiserbergstraße – what or who changes the city,” “Shopping – from everyday needs to luxuries,” “Music – the sound of Kufstein and who made it,” “Coming, staying and going,” “Mobility & traffic,” “Media – news, entertainment and advertising in the 20th century,” “Sport – watching and doing it yourself,” “Borders – memories of various border crossings” and “Before and after 1945.”

We would like to thank everyone who talked or listened at these storytelling cafés, thus creating a special culture of remembrance and conversation.
